Agar Oud

Agar oud, also known as agarwood or simply oud, is a highly prized and aromatic resinous wood that is derived from the heartwood of agarwood trees. These trees, primarily found in Southeast Asia, including countries like India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia, are infected by a particular type of mold, fungus, or bacteria, which triggers a defence response in the tree, leading to the formation of resin.

This resin-embedded wood, known as agarwood, is valued for its rich, complex, and distinctive fragrance, which can range from sweet, woody, and balsamic to smoky, leathery, and animalic. The aroma of agar oud develops over time and is influenced by various factors such as the species of agarwood tree, the region of origin, the age of the tree, and the method of extraction.
